3D printing: how to order and how it is quoted

3D printing (FDM, SLS, MJF, SLA) is always quoted by partners in a tender. You upload an STL, 3MF or STEP model and describe requirements on a drawing or in the notes.

  1. 1Choose 3D printing and upload an STL, 3MF or STEP model in millimetres, one part per file.
  2. 2Choose the material: it determines the process (e.g. PA12 is SLS or MJF, PETG is FDM, resins are SLA).
  3. 3Describe requirements in the notes or on a PDF drawing: critical dimensions, fitted holes, threads, colour, visible surfaces.
  4. 4The request goes to partners with printers in a matching process and a build volume that fits your part. You get the price and lead time within 24-48 hours.

Accuracy and requirements

Print accuracy depends on the process and part size, usually a few tenths of a millimetre. The standard for CNC machining (ISO 2768-m, Ra 3.2) is not achievable in every printing process, so state the requirements for the print on a drawing or in the notes, and the partners confirm them in their offer.

  • The partner can ream fitted holes after printing and make threads with threaded inserts.
  • In FDM and SLA, overhangs need supports, which leave marks. SLS and MJF print without supports.
  • Post-processing: sanding and smoothing, black dyeing (PA12) and painting are chosen with the request.

3D printing has no instant price because our pricing engine does not calculate it. The tender is free and does not oblige you to order.
