01Typical orders

What customers order most

Examples, not a closed list. The order goes to shops whose machines fit the size and material of your part.

01

Brackets and mounting plates

Flat and angled parts with holes, pockets and chamfers, usually in aluminium or steel.

02

Housings and bodies

Parts with pockets on several sides: for bearings, electronics, drives and sensors.

03

Flanges and connectors

Parts with bolt holes, seal grooves and fits.

04

Fixture parts

Holders, base plates, guides and jaws for machines and assembly stations.

02What sets the price

What we look at in your part

Scroll to see what decides price and manufacturing. These are the same things the shop checks before accepting the order.

  1. 01 · 120 × 80 × 30 mm

    Size and material

The stock comes first: how much material has to be bought and removed. Parts up to 600 mm in common materials get an instant price, larger ones are quoted by shops with large machines.

  2. 02 · R ≥ 1/3 of depth

    Pockets and corners

The cutter is round, so an internal corner always has a radius. Make it larger than 1/3 of the pocket depth. Deep, narrow pockets and walls under 1 mm make machining longer.

  3. 03 · 4 × Ø9 · 2 × M8

    Holes and threads

The model shows only the hole, not whether it is threaded. Put threads and fits on the PDF drawing. Holes in standard drill sizes are the cheapest.

  4. 04 · 2 setups

    Machining sides

Every re-clamping adds time and the risk of deviation between datums. Parts with up to three setups get an instant price, angled holes and faces are quoted by shops with 5-axis machines.

  5. 05 · Ø20 H7

    Tolerances

Without a drawing we machine to ISO 2768-m. Give tight tolerances only to dimensions that mate with another part: each one costs slower machining and more precise measuring.

120 × 80 × 30 mm

What drives the price

A fixed price straight away applies to a part in a listed material (AW-6082, AW-7075, S235, 1.4301, POM-C, PA6) with general tolerances and up to 200 pieces. Angled features, thin walls, large sizes and tight tolerances are quoted in a closed tender between shops with suitable machines.

05Guide

What to know before you order

01

CNC milling without searching for a machine shop

Instead of asking several shops for a price, you place one order. Simple parts go to the job board at a fixed price, complex ones are quoted by 3-5 shops with suitable milling machines. Contract, invoice and claims are handled by HexoParts.

02

What to prepare for a milling order

A STEP model of a single part, material, quantity and surface finish. Mark threads, fits and tight tolerances on a PDF drawing. That is all a shop needs to machine the part without follow-up questions.

06Questions

CNC milling: frequently asked questions

How long does it take?

We give the shipping date together with the price, usually 1-2 working weeks. Express shortens it, a tender adds up to 48 h to collect offers.

Will you make a single piece?

Yes, there is no minimum order. For one piece most of the price is machine setup, so the unit price drops for larger batches.

Can the part be anodised?

Yes: clear and black anodising have a fixed price straight away, hard anodising is quoted in a tender.

Learn more about CNC milling

CNC milling service online

Our CNC milling service works online: upload the STEP file, choose material and quantity, get a price. Simple parts get a fixed price straight from the analysis; parts with tight tolerances or angled features are quoted by 3-5 vetted shops. Customers from anywhere in the EU order online straight after the quote.

Milled parts in metal and plastics

Most milled parts are made of aluminium, which machines quickly. Steel and stainless steel take longer but are stronger. Engineering plastics such as POM-C, PA6 and PEEK go to shops experienced in plastic machining. Parts are milled on 3- and 5-axis machining centres, whichever the part needs.

Inspected before shipping

The 3D model is enough for a price; the drawing defines tolerances, threads and fits. The shop measures the critical dimensions before shipping and records them in an inspection report, which our engineer checks. If a dimension is out of tolerance, the part is remade or you get your money back. More on quality.
